A Boy Named Sue?

For anyone who didn't know, Patrice and I were absolutely sure that we were having a little girl. First, we just felt like our first child would be a girl. Second, we had about half-a-dozen ultrasounds during the first few months of pregnancy, and in our last ultrasound on December 17th, we were told that although it was too early to tell for sure, it might be a girl. We were very happy as we have only agreed on one name, which happens to be a name for a girl. We are keeping the name confidential, but the middle name was going to be Sue after both of our mothers.

We were both very surprised to hear that we are in fact have a BOY! I think Patrice was a little startled as she began remembering the horror stories that she has been told about me as a little boy. I assured her that those stories are exaggerated and I was as close to a perfect child as you can get. I think she was convinced because we are both very excited for our little boy.

Here are some tiny little feet. Sorry that you are only getting shots of random body parts. We're not sure if it was the ultrasonographer or if it was because little boy would not stop moving, but we really didn't get a good shot of the whole baby.

Here is a shot looking straight at you. Does that cute little face inspire any name ideas?

And finally, proof that we are in fact having a boy. Patrice told me that this picture isn't appropriate for posting, but again, we did not have a lot of options from which to choose.

I talked to your mom on Thursday night and she told me about the boy. I am so excited for you guys. At least I can start shopping now. If I was Patrice I would be a little nervous to have a little Allen running around as well. Congrats and enjoy pregnancy... It ends way to fast!!! And Hey, at least Sienna will have a new boyfriend to play with... She is so excited, she just told me.

Is Sienna already cheating on Jack, Luke and Noah? I thought she has said she was dating all of them! I love the little boy and Jack is so happy to have a little boy cousin to play with! The ultrasonographer was probably just trying to include all the necessary anatomy and do her measurements, thats probably why she didn't give you too many great pictures. Sad, but true. I will be thinking of some names, although we only had one that we ever liked-- I am all for Jereviscious. He could go by Jere for short! I think a little Allen running around will be adorable, and I cannot wait to see what he looks like! Sorry Patrice, I don't think you stand a chance of having him look Shuppyish at all, given the strong genes that our family seems to have! Hope you're feeling okay, Patrice! And you don't have to listen to Staci--you don't have to enjoy your pregnancy--unless you want to.

On another note--I love your layout-I checked for updates last night and saw that it was a work-in-progress, so I was excited to see the finished product!

I can't see feet, a face, or any other important body parts -- all I know is that there is new little grandchild for me to kiss and love and adore and take for walks around Grandma and Grandpa's farm and that's all that matters to me! I know I once said that I wasn't in love with the name of Allen, but Dad had wanted you named that so much that I had gone along with it. I want to clarify myself here and now that those words are a little misleading. You know me well enough to know that I would never have named a child that I knew would grow up to be so smart, strong, handsome, ambitious and loving if I did not love the name and think it would fit my child! I love the name Allen and all I can picture is a little Allen Jr. and Patrice should NEVER be scarred to have a little Allen running around. Admittedly, there was somewhat of a challenge to try and be in control--but as soon as I realized that I needed to stop trying to "control" and just guide and direct, my life was very happy, because my little Allen is a problem-solver and a very logical thinker--so guiding and directing were a much easier task than controlling. Having said that, I actually was never able to control any of my children but trying to lead and guide them was a very rewarding wxperience, and living with their very independent father also taught me that having the confidence to be independent is a GOOD thing! Now we have gone through Philosophy 1000, let me just say again and again and again--I AM SO HAPPY TO KNOW I HAVE ANOTHER NEW LITTLE GRANDCHILD FROM TWO WONDERFUL CHILDREN WHO WANT A BABY SO BADLY AND WILL BE SUCH GREAT PARENTS THAT I DON'T CARE WHAT HIS NAME IS OR IF HE IS STUBBORN OR INDEPENDENT OR ANYTHING ELSE! HE WILL BE A WONDERFUL CHILD BROUGHT INTO THIS WORLD BY TWO PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE LORD AND WILL TEACH HIM ALL HE NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be "Grandma" again! (Oh yes, and I love the layout!)

Little "Sue" will be fine whatever he/she is. Although, I am excited for you to have a boy. Maybe he and Addy will get married one day and we will be in-laws!!! But she doesn't like boys named Jeravicious, so you might need to rethink that name. Congrats!!!

Sister, Sister! Your going to be a mommy! I am sure that little Sue will be even more perfect than Allen since his mommy was queen of perfection growing up. I bet by the time I get to see the little Tyke, he will have reached his peak, One and a half is always a good age right?!... Just before the TERRIBLE TWO'S. Congratulations!

Boys are soooo much fun--I speak from experience since I have 3!! As you know we like "original" names so I won't be giving you any ideas like Steve, James or William. Instead I think that I will give you "strong" names like Eisenhower (you can call him Ike) or Ulysses (those are for if you want to go with a presidential theme). Then again, you can always go the scriptural route like we did and name him Zoram, Abinadi, or Omni!!! You'll have to keep us updated--and just so you know if you choose the name now and just start calling the baby by it's name before it is born, you won't have to worry about if the name "fits"--it just WILL!!

oh---I just thought of another theme! You could have Lord of the Rings names!!! He could be Aragorn or Legolas or even Gandalf and if you have a girl later on you could name her Eowyn or Arwen!! More names to come!!!

Don't worry, we thought we were having a little girl as well. In fact I was so sure of it I had a name picked out, and several articles of clothing before the ultrasound. (Everyone said the mother always knows). Well apparently I didn't! We had our first ultrasound and they informed us we were having a boy. I said uh I think you are mistaken, check again. After 5 more checks I came to the realization that I was going to have a male baby, not a female one. Curtis even turned to me and said please don't cry! Anyhow, boys are great, and I can't wait to meet the little guy.

Congratulations! I suggest Agustus, easily shortened to Ag or Aggie. And thank goodness you have propagated the McNeil name into the next generation -- my first two sons don't seem too interested (and my third one better not be, not yet anyway...) -- although Jay has enough McNeils XYs in reserve that we'd probably be all right. Poor Grandpa Hebe's probably been wondering that for all the progenetizing going on, why it would take so long to get a great-great-grandson with the McNeil nameplate? Congratulations on breaking the ice.

So I didn't mean to make everyone upset by saying to enjoy the pregnancy... I was just speaking from my experience,I waited so long that I enjoyed every minute of it and it did go by so fast... So sorry if I offended anyone... Again, Very sorry, I didn't realize how many people would get upset over that. as far as the name goes, I am going with Month, I think Agustus McNeil is a great name... Little Aggie, I can picture him now... SO CUTE!!!

I'm fresh out of name ideas. We might go for the animal theme, name the next boy wolfgang. Maybe you could name your boy your celebrity couple name, altrice, or patten. When I worked in a rest home I always like the name of one of our residents, "Canon." It's also a camera brand I know, but I still like it. Lets see...there's alway the classic, Vegetable Platter McNeil, call him Veggy for short. You could try for names that are associated with success, like Walmart, or Ryan formerly the temp. p.s. get ready to have 20 more weeks of people coming up with stupid joke names for your baby. And also hating the names you are seriously considering etc... such fun!

Well well well, little Allen and Patrice are having a boy. I think that there is really only one explanation why, we all want to see if Allen can have a boy that looks as much like him as Noah. I think the only thing that you need to go out and buy right now is a yellow food strainer and a pair of cowboy boots. The cutest picture I ever saw were of a little boy wearing a yellow strainer as a hat and that same boy walking out to the barn in a pair of boots and no pants or undies. I just had to erase panties and put undies in there because at our house we only say panties. I think this is the year of the boy, to bad I didn't get on board the B-Train!!! As far as the name goes I am all for family names like David Alexander Shuppy McNeil. Just call him ZANDER for short, like ZOOLANDER!!! Love the blog keep up the good work!

Congradulations on the boy! I am so excited for you two. Allen you are going to be such a great Dad to that little boy. I am also excited that my little boy will have a cousin to play with at the McNeil family reunions. That is if we have another reunion. Either way maybe you and I should plan a reunion. I can't remember the last time I saw you. Get a hold of me the next time you guys are up and will have to plan a get-together.

I have to admit that when I heard how your ultrasound went I was laughing because I knew that you two thought you were having a girl, and wanted one. I stopped laughing the following Monday when I had my ultrasound. I really am so excited for these two boys to have each other! I just know that they are going to be the best little friends ever. Grandpa will have more farm "help" than he will know what to do with. As far as names go, since we like Eli, I was thinking Payton. It worked well for the Mannings. No seriously, boy names are hard but I think Drew, Tate, and Alex are all really cute. (Yes, I realize there is already a Drew McNeil, but the name is really cute.) Yeah for boys!

Mont said...

We hereby waive exclusivity on Drew, since the name is really cute. Plus this is the next generation, and I think the Universal Cousin Naming Protocol (UCNP) only allows exclusivity in the same generation. Of course, if one of our kids decides to name a child after Uncle Drew or himself (since it really, really is a cute name), we'll have the specter of second cousins with the same name. But if you can live with it, we can.

However, we have heard rumors that someone was considering the name Eliot for a girl (like the chick on Scrubs). That's a different section of the UCNP, and we would definitely protest that.
